The British X-type troop parachute was a highly successful design adopted late in 1940. Unlike American parachutes, the X-type did not have a reserve parachute. The initial model was the MkI (15A/475), and is identified by the static line stowed in two vertical pockets on the exterior. Although slowly phased out by the MkII beginning in 1944, the MkI continued in use throughout the war. Ideal for 1940 through Normandy.
Over 100 feet custom woven webbing is painstakingly interlaced and layered to form the harness element. An actual harness machine from the war creates authentic ultra-heavy 7-class stitching. The rare fully circular release box is entirely functional, ejecting the release lugs for instantaneous release. This precision-machined bit of engineering provides an authentic "click" straight from 1940. The pack tray, built with aeronautical canvas duck, incorporates the 6mm textile internal frame that provides stiffness and body to the pack. The 3 pack retainers, in the characteristic "Y" layout of the MkI, use original NOS webbing. The full length 12-foot static line is stowed in the exterior pocket, and terminates in a drop forged V-ring with triple box-x stitching. No detail is overlooked, from the period correct anti-fray coating, to the Irvin harness label and inspection stamps. Includes the instructional manual, and ships packed out with a filler for display.
NOTE: Both standard & premium models are identical from the outside when packed. The only differ internally. The standard model lacks some interior features that are hidden when packed to reduce cost. The premium model (+$239) includes all the complex internal flaps, loops, and webs on the inner deployment bag (all hidden when packed). For the premium model, please email to order.
