The classic USN Harness 1943-1945.
Harness only, flying jacket shown for illustration.
MADE IN USA
The Quick Attachable Seat, or QAS, was the first harness explicitly designed for carrier operations. On a packed flight deck of whirling propellers, an accidental parachute opening could have devastating results. The Quick Attachable Seat, (QAS) allowed the pilot to leave the chute pack in the aircraft, and only wear the harness while scrambling into the cockpit. Once seated, the chute pack could be rapidly clipped on with snap hooks. This design proved be to far more comfortable, and increased the speed at which aviators could scramble from the ready room to the cockpit.
This faithful reproduction copies the widely issued early QAS harness, (1943-1944). Over 80 feet of custom woven webbing is painstakingly interlaced and layered (8 layers at points!) to form the harness element. An actual harness machine from the war creates authentic 7-class stitching with mil-spec ultra heavy 100% cotton thread. Custom steel fittings from the original blueprints ensure that every "click" of the buckles are an authentic sound straight from 1943. The back pad is built with our custom dyed "Battleship Gray" tight weave canvas and genuine USA Scovill fasteners. Custom smooth weave HBT webs have the proper anti-fray end coatings - no detail is overlooked. Complete with part, date, manufacturer, and inspection markings, all hand stamped just like originals.
NOTE: Most QAS harnesses from 1943-1944 were converted from AN-style harnesses, and this is the model we have chosen to copy. Other variants, such as with extra V-rings for pack attachment or butterfly tab attachment hooks can be special ordered upon request.
