Observer Harness

Adopted in February 1933 by the RAF, the Observer Harness was soon a favorite among US fliers in the ETO.  Increasingly forced to bail out over the Atlantic, US airmen of the VIII bomber command clamored for quick-release parachutes like their British counterparts. Beginning in November 1942, thousands  of Observer harnesses were transferred into US hands and served alongside the standard US issue harnesses until the end of the war.

This replica is built with the double layered Type VIII black dot webbing and period hardware. Built with the correct fully-circular quick release box, it is a beautiful reproduction of this rare parachute. The harness is complete with the characteristic drab brown back pad, which features period cotton duck, original drab brown retaining webbing, and stainless hardware. Internally, it features period style hair felt padding. The correct square rings are located on the saddle for attachment of a life raft.
