RAF Raft Cases
If an airmen was forced to bail out over water, he would quickly succumb to the elements. As a result, the RAF was quick to adopt individual life rafts for aircrew, would could be connected directly to their parachute harness. After touching down in the water, a stiff pull on the lanyard peeled the outer cover off, revealing the raft and survival accessories stored on the inner panel. The Type-A container was intended to fit the RAF seat parachute assembly. It replaced the seat cushion and attached to the seat pack via four press studs. The Type-C container attached the Observer parachute harness with two stamped steel hooks on either side.
