Griswold Bag
The Griswold bag, known originally as the “Container, Individual Aerial Delivery Rifle,” was adopted in the late Spring of 1942. It securely held a disassembled M-1 rifle, and attached to the parachute harness with a snap hook. The container was closed with a steel rod, which instantly opened the container like the ripcord on a parachute pack. The rifle barrel was further protected with an additional thick horsehair muzzle cover - invariably missing from most surviving bags. This container was standard issue on all airborne operations through Normandy.
The steel ripcord rod is constructed from the same material as ripcord pins - a high grade, high carbon spring steel which tends to flex rather than take a permanent bend. (Yes, if you intentionally try to bend it you will succeed, but it's not made from malleable coat hangers). Missing from practically every Griswold.
Also available is the rare horsehair muzzle cover. Unlike the cheap gray felt or the rough coconut padding often sold online, this actually looks correct! Stitched with heavy NOS cotton cord, just like originals.

Griswold Ripcord Rod: $9.95 (email to order)
